The Royal Observer Corps HQ in Biddenham

The Royal Observer Corps used to have their area headquarters on the corner of Days Lane and Bromham Road. The site now has completely vanished, with new housing replacing its location. There is a small plaque commemorating its existence and location.

Remembering the Royal Observer Corps

The Royal Observer Corps (ROC) was a civil defence organisation focused on the visual detection, identification, tracking, and reporting of aircraft over Great Britain. It was active from October 29, 1925, to December 31, 1995. Primarily made up of civilian volunteers, ROC members wore uniforms similar to those of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and were later managed by RAF Strike Command and operated under the Home Office. Civilian volunteers received training and oversight from a small group of full-time professional officers, led by the Commandant of the Royal Observer Corps, who was typically a serving RAF Air Commodore.
