St James Church Explorers

St James’ Sunday school, called “Explorers” within the church is a vibrant and welcoming group aimed at children between the ages of 3 to 9 with some older children helping as well. Currently there are around 14 active children that attend on a regular basis. All young children attending are expected to have their parents with them. Parents take responsibility for their children.

The Sunday school takes place in the church barn in school term time only. The sessions take place every week between and 10am apart from the first Sunday of the month when there is a family service in which the explorers also participate. A timetable of organisers and dates is always kept in the church barn and the church notice board for the full year.

There is a very strong link between the Sunday school and St James’ Church. The school is fully integrated into the church program and activities.

The sessions are traditional with a modern and relaxed approach. The emphasis is very much on fun but delivering a relevant message from the bible that the children can take away with them. The children participate and discuss religious themes in a contemporary context. They also get involved in activities that include acting out religious stories as well as participate in art and crafts and other project based activities. They are also encouraged to read in the explorer sessions and in church during family presentations.

The children are drawn in from St James and other local schools, so the chances are that your children will recognise someone in the group already. If your child attends a different school however they will be made to feel equally welcome.
