On a competitive Sunday afternoon, Southill Park CC and Biddenham CC locked horns in a gripping encounter that saw Southill Park emerge victorious by a convincing 56-run margin.
Southill Park won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that quickly bore fruit as their top order laid a solid foundation for a big score. The Southill Park Sunday 1st XI posted a formidable total of 272 all out from 38.1 overs, with opener Ajay Momi falling agonisingly short of his century on 99. Their innings was characterised by strong partnerships and fluent strokeplay, with several batsmen contributing valuable runs. The team maintained a high run rate throughout, capitalising on loose deliveries and pushing the fielders with sharp running.
Despite the onslaught, Biddenham’s bowlers showed commendable spirit. Their attack picked up wickets at regular intervals, preventing Southill Park from running away with an even more imposing total. Five bowlers shared the wickets, keeping pressure on the batsmen. The fielding side’s determination ensured Southill Park were bowled out before completing their full quota of overs.
Set a revised target of 266 from 40 overs, Biddenham CC’s reply was spirited but ultimately fell short, despite a superb start from openers Abhilash Pandey and Charlie Searle. The side was bowled out for 209 in 36.3 overs, with a late smash and grab from wicketkeeper Dean Dass not quite enough. The chase was hampered by tight bowling from Southill Park, who maintained a stranglehold on the scoring rate and took wickets at crucial moments.
