After Sunday’s welcome deluge, the match between Biddenham CC and high-flying Luton Town and Indians CC at the Recreation Ground was a shortened affair, with the match limited to 26 over per side.

Luton won the toss and put Biddenham into bat first. The home team put in a great effort, with Thomas Nelson top-scoring with a quick-fire 64 not out from just 45 deliveries, including four fours and a six. Valuable contributions came all down the batting order, notably from Abhilash Pandey and Amarpal Singh, as Biddenham knocked off 168 / 7 in their allotted 26 overs.

Luton Town and Indians seemed to be coasting to a revised target of 171, despite losing opener Bilal Ahmed to a duck. Fayaz Homyoon and Sameem Safi put on 96 for the second wicket, albeit at a slightly pedestrian rate, pegged back by some economical bowling from the Biddenham attack. The pressure to score told and a collapse followed, with Luton being skittled out in 23.5 overs for 140. Huge congratulations for a stellar display from Amarpal Singh, who took four wickets for just 14 runs in 5.5 overs – a real all-rounder’s performance.

Biddenham took 30 points from the match and continue to occupy an impressively high third position in the Premier Division.

We have a break next week, followed by the next encounter on 20th July (1pm) at the Rec against Caldecote Cricket Club.
